2nd phase: Cultivation of Post larvae
Once the post larvae have been caught, they need to grow in conditions that maximise their survival. That’s why we keep them in small aquariums. This protects them from predators and allows us to monitor their development. What’s more, this solution allows us to provide care specific to the species and its stage of growth, which limits mortality. The rearing time can vary from 1 to 4 months before they turn into juveniles.
At the same time, we will be working with our partners to find the best release sites for the juveniles. It is currently possible to rear around forty species of post larvae from the Pacific region.
Goals
Grow the post larvae under controlled conditions until they can be released.
Identify the best restocking sites.
Release a few juveniles.
Deliverables of the phase
A report on the care of post larvae and suitable rearing methods.
Mapping of restocking sites.
Proposals for the eco-management of release sites if necessary.
